Many people ask us: "When is the best time to travel
to Vernazza?" but Vernazza is beautiful the whole year
through and each season has its own particular charm.
Spring
In spring the climate is generally mild, and whilst in
most parts of Europe it's still cold and frozen, here
in the Cinque Terre, the pastel colours of the blossom
flowers are bringing joy to the hiker's soul.
Summer
In summer, relief from the heat comes courtesy of the
ocean breeze. The deep, clear blue of the
Mediterranean Sea not only offers refreshment, but
also invites you to explore the underwater secrets of
the protected marine zone.
Autumn
In autumn, the shorter days announce that winter is
near. Although shorter, the days are still beautifully
sunny and you can enjoy the last swimming of the
season. The tiny streets are perfumed by the
sweet-acrid smell of the collected grapes. Casting an
eye inside the cellars, you'll see hung many grapes,
chosen specially for use in the making of "sciacchetrà
" (local sweet wine).
Winter
In winter, the temperature can be very low, but when
the sun is shining, up on the hill trails it can
become quite warm. Only in wintertime, with the light
and air especially bright and clear, can one
contemplate, whilst hiking on our trails, the snowy
summits of the Maritime Alps by the French border and
the Islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.
